Bottle diplomacy

It’s like a joke set up: there was a capitalist, a communist, and a socialist on the bar stools […] The capitalist said why don’t you come to my house for another drink? We were kind of looking at the bartender and she said, “It’s okay, we’ll go with you! We’ll make sure you get back.” […] We all go tooling on a really long ride into the countryside to this country manor.

The man is a widower so he lives alone in this big house, so he’s kinda lonely. He pulls out this Calvados that his father-in-law made, many decades before, from his cellar. He opened up the Calvados, this apple brandy they make in Normandy […]

They put records on and we were all dancing and drinking this Calvados. And then when we were ready to go the man put the cork in this bottle and said “This is for you.” So we carried it in our bicycle the rest of the journey and drank it all before we had to get on the plane and I have this on my mantelpiece at home.
